GD - Roma, 29 sett. 2017 - IAI-GVC-Italia seminar on "EU Aid and Development Planning in the Occupied West Bank", Wednesday 4 October 2017 (10:00 - 12:30), Rome, Via Angelo Brunetti 9 (Third Floor).
Far removed from the daily press briefings and rhetorical statements in support for two states, Israel´s planning and building regime in the occupied Palestinian Territories is systematically preventing the emergence of a sustainable and contiguous Palestinian state.
The Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) and GVC-Italia will discuss Italy´s and the EU´s evolving policies in Area C, presently comprising over 60% of the occupied West Bank, while analysing the primary constraints impacting EU-funded humanitarian and development projects in the area.
Speakers include Mario Baldi, head of the Humanitarian and Emergency Aid Office of the Directorate-General for Development Cooperation at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI); two representatives of GVC-Italia Palestine office; and two academics from leading European universities.
The seminar will address efforts by donor states to switch from short-term emergency assistance to more long-term forms of sustainable development in Area C. Invited experts will discuss the humanitarian, legal and political dimensions of these interventions and seek out recommendations targeting the EU and its member states in an effort to create synergies between the activities of EU-funded organizations in Palestine.
